The Private Pilot Certificate is a first step in exploring the fascinating world of aviation. This rating allows flight when visibility is good. This is called VFR or Visual Flight Rules.

Getting started will include ground school training with dual and solo flight time.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has minimum requirements for this certificate:

  • 40 hours of total flight time
    • 20 hours with a flight instructor (dual)
    • 10 hours of solo
  • Must be at least 17 years of age
  • Must be a US citizen or have the required documentation to be in the US
  • Must read, write and comprehend English
  • Must pass an aviation physical exam
  • Must pass an FAA written and oral exam and a check-ride
