This rating allows for flight when
visibility is below VFR conditions. This is called IFR or Instrument
Flight Rules.
The FAA requirements are:
- Minimum flight time
- 50 hours of PIC Cross-Country time
- 40 hours of instrument or simulated instrument flight time
of which you must have:
- 15 hours with a flight instructor in the aircraft category
for which the instrument rating is sought.
- up to 20 hours of simulated instrument time may be
conducted in an approved flight simulator
- Must pass an FAA written and oral exam and a check-ride
